Autosport exclusively reported that Carlos Sainz Sr is considering challenging Mohammed Ben Sulayem for a second term as FIA president this year’s elections. Sainz, a two-time World Rally champion, continues to race in the Dakar Rally, recently securing victory in 2024 with Audi and moving to Ford in 2025. He started his racing career in the 1980s on the national Spanish rally scene, winning with SEAT before transitioning to single-seaters sponsored by Marlboro. Sainz later joined Ford in the World Rally Championship, impressing Toyota Team Europe’s Ove Andersson and signing with them in 1989. Despite a slow start, Sainz clinched his first WRC victory in 1990 and went on to win two championships with Toyota before briefly driving for Lancia in 1993.
